FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. CAN I TALK TO YOU ON THE PHONE?

Just a heads-up, a phone call might not cover every little detail about your event. To get all the info I need, please fill out the BOOKING INQUIRY form in CONTACT. I'll pencil your date in. 

2. HOW CAN I FIND OUT IF YOU'RE AVAILABLE? 

To make sure I’m free, could you please confirm your event date and location? You can fill out the BOOKING INQUIRY form in CONTACT. This will help me answer those questions and get all the other details about your event.

3. HOW MUCH DO YOU COST? 

$135/hour.

4. HOW DO I SECURE MY EVENT DATE?

I’ll send you a secure e-transfer link so you can make your $135 deposit. Once it’s received, you’ll get a confirmation email and a booking/invoice for your records. 

5. CAN I BOOK YOU FOR JUST 2 HOURS? 

Just so you know, I need at least three hours to cover all the basics like paperwork, emails, travel, gas, setup and the time I spend drawing caricatures.

6. DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR SET-UP TIME? 

My $135/hr covers the cost of my at-event setup.

7. AT THE EVENT, HOW MUCH IS YOUR OVERTIME? 

$150/hour or $25 for each additional 10 minutes paid at the time.

8. HOW MANY CARICATURES CAN YOU DRAW? 

Approximately six faces per hour, or one face every 10 minutes, without interruptions.

9. I HAVE VIPs. WHEN SHOULD THEY BE CARICATURED? 

During the first hour of the event. Please provide a list of names beforehand and when you want them caricatured. 

You can also list your VIPs' names on a sign-up sheet (read #16 for info). 

However, late arriving VIPs who extend my caricaturing into overtime will cost an additional $150/hour or $25 for each additional 10 minutes, paid at the time.

10. HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN YOU INCLUDE IN ONE CARICATURE? 

One, two, three, and four people onto my vast library of parody backgrounds. To see parody background examples go to the GALLERY. For a larger group I can prepare a large art board at a cost.

11. CAN YOU WALK AROUND CARICATURING PEOPLE? 

Crowd management is difficult this way. Guests crowd around me causing more congestion in an already tightly packed banquet space. The best way is to dedicate a caricaturing space where guest may easily line-up and watch me caricature. (Read 12 to 16 for more info.)

12. DO YOU NEED A TABLE? 

No table is needed. 

13. DO YOU NEED CHAIRS? 

I need 2 armless chairs (one for me and another for the person I’m drawing), and 6 line-up chairs. (Read 16 for more info).

14. HOW MUCH CARICATURING SPACE DO YOU NEED? 

My art space should be about 4 feet by 8 feet (1.5 meters by 2.5 meters), enough for my easel, art kit, and two chairs with convenient access to a grounded electrical outlet.

There should be additional room for the 6 line-up chairs and the standing line-up. This space should be away from the bar, fire exits, band stand, sound equipment, dance floor, kitchen and bathrooms doors.

15. HOW IS THE LINE-UP MANAGEMENT? 

I use the first-come-first-serve method. However, waiting in a long line is tiring and guests tend to leave losing their spot. Consider a sign-up sheet. (Read 16 for more info.)

16. HOW DOES A SIGN-UP SHEET WORK? 

Assign a volunteer(s) to (A) monitor a sign-up sheet, (B) collect guests as their turns come up, and (C) keep the 6 line-up chairs full. 

There are only 6, 10-minute caricature slots available for every hour booked. During the last hour the line-up chairs can be removed, one by one, until the last guest is caricatured. 

Barring interruptions I frequently meet the 6 caricatures drawn every hour when there is a managed sign-up sheet.

17. HOW DO I ANNOUNCE YOU? 

Over the PA at the start of the event with periodic remembers say something like, “Kenn White the caricaturist is here to draw you tonight. You can find him by the  ________” 

18. HOW DO I PRONOUNCE “CARICATURIST”? 

“CHARACTER-IST” or just say, “CARTOON-IST”. 

19. DO YOU CHARGE FOR TRAVEL TIME? 

Not for events inside Winnipeg, but for outside city limits mileage it’s $1.35/km (to and from the event).

20. DOES YOUR HOURLY FEE COVER HOTEL AND MEALS? 

Not for out-of-Winnipeg events. Hotel and meal costs must be covered by you.

21. DO YOU TAKE BREAKS? 

Yes. For 3-hour and 4-hour bookings I take 5-minute breaks, as needed, after each hour. For 8-hour bookings I take 10-minute breaks after the 2nd and 6th hour, and a 1/2 hour break after the 4th hour.

22. DO YOU CHARGE ME WHEN YOU HAVE TO STOP FOR SPEECHES AND PRESENTATIONS?

Only if it’s more than 1/2 hour. Let me know and I’ll put it in our booking agreement.

23. CAN I HAVE A CUSTOM BACKGROUND THAT FITS MY EVENT THEME?

24. WHAT DOES A CUSTOM BACKGROUND COST? 

It starts at $175.

25. DO YOU BOOK OUTDOOR EVENTS? 

Infrequently, but when I do I need an anchored and enclosed shelter to provide protection against sun, wind and rain. Also provide heaters in the fall, fans in the summer, mosquito abatement, night lighting, and a “grounded” electrical extension for my art lamp.
