FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. HOW CAN I FIND OUT IF YOU'RE AVAILABLE? 

To see if I’m free, please fill out the BOOKING INQUIRY form under CONTACT. I’ll get back to you about my availability, and pencil your event details into my calendar should you decide to book me, or change your event details later on.

2. HOW MUCH DO YOU COST? 

$135/hour.

3. HOW DO I SECURE MY EVENT DATE?

I’ll send you a secure e-transfer link so you can make your $135 deposit. Once it’s received, you’ll get a confirmation email and a booking/invoice for your records. 

4. CAN I BOOK YOU FOR JUST 2 HOURS? 

Just so you know, I need at least three hours to cover all the basics like preparing the paperwork, emails, travel, gas, setup and the time I spend drawing caricatures.

5. HOW MUCH IS YOUR OVERTIME? 

$150/hour or $25 for each additional 10 minutes.

6. HOW MANY CARICATURES CAN YOU DRAW? 

Approximately 6 faces per hour, or 1 face every 10 minutes.

7. CAN I HAVE MY VIPs CARICATURED BEFORE  EVERYONE ELSE? 

Yes. VIPs should be caricatured during the first hours of the event. 

• Please provide a list of the VIP names beforehand. 
• Bring your VIPs up to me to be caricatured.
• Should my caricaturing time be extended into overtime because of unexpected or late arriving VIPs, it's $150/hour or $25 for each additional 10 minutes.

8. HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN YOU INCLUDE IN ONE CARICATURE? 

One, two, three, and four people. To see examples go to the GALLERY. For a larger group I can prepare a large art board beforehand.

9. CAN YOU WALK AROUND CARICATURING PEOPLE? 

Crowd management is difficult this way. Guests crowd around causing more congestion in an already tightly packed banquet space. The best way is to provide a caricaturing space where guest can line-up.

10. DO YOU NEED A TABLE? 

• No table is needed. 

11. DO YOU NEED CHAIRS? 

• 1 armless chair for me.
• 1 armless chair or "HOT SEAT" for the person I’m caricaturing. 
• 6 line-up chairs arranged side-by-side so guests can shift over from seat to seat until they are sitting in the "HOT SEAT".

12. HOW MUCH CARICATURING SPACE DO YOU NEED? 

• About 4 ft by 8 ft (1.5 m by 2.5 m), for my easel, art kit, artist chair and the "HOT SEAT".
• Access to a grounded electrical outlet for my art lamps.
• An additional 3 ft by 18 ft (1 m by 6 m) for the 6 line-up chairs and guests who are standing in the line-up. 
• This space should be away from the bar, fire exits, band stand, sound equipment, dance floor, kitchen and bathrooms doors.

13. HOW DO YOU MANAGE YOUR LINE-UP? 

I use a first-come, first-served system, but you might prefer a sign-up sheet to reduce wait times.

14. HOW DOES A SIGN-UP SHEET WORK? 

Assign a dedicated volunteer(s) to: 

• take down names for the sign-up sheet
• call up guests as their turn comes up (a call number system can be used to avoid confusion)
• keep the line-up chairs full until the last hour when . . .
• the line-up chairs are removed, one-by-one, and all guests are caricatured. 

15. HOW DO I ANNOUNCE YOU? 

Announce me at the start of the event with periodic remembers. Say something like, “Kenn White the caricature artist (characture artist) is here to draw your caricatures (characters) tonight.” 

16. DO YOU CHARGE FOR TRAVEL TIME? 

Not for events inside Winnipeg, but for outside city limits mileage it’s $1.35/km (to and from the event).

17. DOES YOUR HOURLY FEE COVER HOTEL AND MEALS? 

Not for out-of-Winnipeg events. Hotel and meal costs must be covered by you.

18. DO YOU TAKE BREAKS? 

Yes. At three and four hour long bookings I take 5-minute breaks (as needed) every hour. At day-long events I take 15-minute breaks every two hours, and 30 to 60 minute breaks at the midway point. This is built into the booking agreement beforehand.

19. DO YOU CHARGE ME WHEN YOU HAVE TO STOP FOR SPEECHES AND PRESENTATIONS?

Only if it’s more than 1/2 hour. Let me know and I’ll put it in the booking agreement beforehand.

20. CAN I HAVE A CUSTOM BACKGROUND THAT FITS MY EVENT THEME?

21. WHAT DOES A CUSTOM BACKGROUND COST? 

It starts at $175.

22. DO YOU BOOK OUTDOOR EVENTS? 

Infrequently, but when I do I need an anchored and enclosed shelter to provide protection against sun, wind and rain. Also provide heaters in the fall, fans in the summer, mosquito abatement, night lighting, and a “grounded” electrical extension for my art lamp.
